I have this problem with the word "iteration." You see, to most people, iterating most likely means continuously refining something until they are happy with it. But to me, iterating something means barreling through until it's done and if I'm not happy with it, I destroy it and start over.

That said, this is the third time I've "iterated" the Kitbash website in the last 12 months.

I have no traditional web design experience, just what I gleaned during my time at Myspace Academy 20 years ago (I eventually transferred to Google University, where I wrote my master's thesis How to Tweet Things You will Later Regret). So, you could say I know enough about web design to be dangerous. Emphasis on dangerous.

After two failed attempts at trying to convince myself web design was simple enough to do on my own, I finally spent $50 on a design template. After spending another three months bastardizing it beyond all recognition, I am now thrilled to grant my website the title of Good Enough.

All in all, I'm very happy with how it turned out, but there are a few things I still plan to do:

  • Fill out the blog. Hey look, I'm doing it!
  • Embed my portfolio links instead of externally linking to vimeo.
  • Make the service pages much more interactive, but that's not happening until I can pay a human to do it for me.
  • Much more. Oh god. So much more.

But for now, I need to stop focusing on web design and turn my attention to the things I do best, like producing videos or frying the perfect egg. These blogs will record my progress on all fronts.

And with that, if this web design gauntlet has taught me anything, it's to lean more into the peaceful, loving embrace of continuous refinement, and less into the cold, chaotic destruction that is iteration.

In fact, reader, if I ever so much as hint at tearing this thing down to start over, please: tie me up, lock me in a room, and make me re-read this blog post until I change my mind.

Warning: I will try to trick you into untying me. Don't fall for it.
